Coaching Psychology is for Individuals who want to grow, not be 'treated'.
We work with people who need to focus on their thoughts and feelings, but don’t necessarily need or want long-term clinical therapy.
Individuals who could benefit from support with their thoughts and feelings are all around us, yet up to 60% of of the population never seek any help. Why? Because they fear being medicalised or judged, or because they just don't see their 'way of being' as needing that type of investment. What happens as a result? People continue to perform poorly, fail to realise their potential, and experience sub-optimal happiness... the list goes on.

Up until recently, if someone wanted support, their two options were coaching - offering practical solutions for challenges but with no professional psychological input. Alternatively, there was counselling, originally designed for clinical mental health presentations and generally focusing on the past as a way of healing in the present. Whilst counselling techniques can be highly effective in helping individuals with their day-to-day thoughts and emotions (Buntrock, 2024), clients typically attend 12-20 counselling sessions, and on occasion this can extend to several years. This results in an average cost of £4,000 per year at average UK counselling rates.
By comparison, coaching psychologists often work for a shorter period and in a structured way, typically 6 to 10 sessions agreed in advance and focused on clear goals, costing approximately £1,000.
Research has shown that for people managing mild emotional or motivational challenges, this approach achieves the same outcomes as counselling (Barkham, 2021; YouGov, 2024) and achieves this in a developmental rather than medicalised context.
